Anti-wrinkle fillers are injected into skin on the face to restore fullness and diminish lines and wrinkles. The treatments are done in a physician's office and require no downtime. There are several different dermal fillers and each works in a different way to restore youthful appearance.
Botox works by relaxing the muscles in the face. It is most effective on crow's feet and forehead wrinkles. Because it is injected directly into the muscle, its effects are instant. The wrinkles that normally appear from facial movements do not show because the facial muscles are relaxed. Botox is often used with other dermal fillers.
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid filler that is used to replace the lost volume in the face caused by aging, sun over-exposure, smoking or weight loss. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the human body. Restylane is most effective at diminishing the creases between the nose and mouth called nasolabial folds, crow's feet and forehead wrinkles. Results are noticeable within a few days. Injections of Restylane are also used for adding fullness to the lips.
Juvederm is also a hyaluronic acid injectable. Like Restylane, it is used to correct moderate to severe wrinkles. The major difference is that Juvederm has a smoother gel texture, making it more suitable for lip injections. Juvederm XC is made with lidocaine, so injections are less painful.
